Try Scuba Experience in the Ocean

Our Try Scuba Diving experience is designed for those who have always wanted to explore the underwater world but have never had the chance.

This introductory program allows you to experience the thrill of scuba diving under the direct supervision of our experienced instructors.

A short introduction to the basics of scuba diving will be followed by a shallow water session where you will get a chance to explore Gran Canaria’s marine life and its stunning underwater landscapes.

  • Positive outcome of a medical questionnaire to ensure you are fit to dive.

What to expect

The full experience lasts roughly 4 hours, giving you ample time to learn, practice, and explore. Safety is our top priority at Brothers Diving. During your Try Scuba Diving experience, if you are capable of performing some basic skills, you’ll dive to a maximum depth of 10 metres, otherwise maximum depth will be 5 metres.

This program is perfect for beginners, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the underwater world while staying within safe limits. The in-water session will last up to 1 hour depending on your air consumption.

What’s included

Complete diving equipment: Top-quality gear in a variety of sizes to ensure a perfect fit, so you can quickly adapt and start diving with comfortable and suitable equipment.

Diving insurance: Dive confidently, knowing you’re covered during your Try Dive.

Pickup at your accommodation: We pick you up within Maspalomas area, take you to the centre and dive site, and bring you back to your accommodation. Enjoy a hassle-free service and focus your energy on enjoying the dive without wasting time looking for parking.

Diploma of participation: Create a Diver Account in the MySSI app or website and obtain your diploma of paricipation. 

Log Book via MySSI app: Record your diving experience in the digital logbook.

Access to Learning Material: If you want to know more about diving, SSI offer you free access some of their Leaning Material. Access in the MySSI app from day one.

What to expect

Feel ready to double-up? While the Try Scuba experience is perfect for those looking for a quick and exciting introduction, the Basic Diver program is ideal for those who want to fully discover scuba diving and enjoy this experience at 360 degrees.

The SSI Basic Diver program is a more comprehensive introduction to scuba diving, lasting 6 hours. It includes additional training and 2 dives in the same morning, providing a deeper understanding of scuba diving principles and practices.

You’ll start with a brief orientation on the basics of scuba diving, followed by a shallow water session to get comfortable with the equipment and breathing underwater. Finally, you’ll embark on an open water dive up to 12 metres, where you’ll discover the vibrant marine life and stunning underwater landscapes of Gran Canaria.

The only additional requirement is to be at least 10 years old.

What else is included

In addition to what is included in the Try Scuba experience, with this program you will also earn a Digital Recognition Card: You must create a Diver Account in the MySSI app or website to obtain your Digital Recognition Card that will allow you to dive with a Scuba Instructor in conditions similar to your training; your dives can count toward the Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver training. Credit only applies if done within six (6) months of completing the Basic Diver program.

Here's what we'll cover in your Try Scuba

1. You’ll meet us at the diving centre and complete some mandatory paperwork, which includes a medical questionnaire.

2. Next, we’ll train you for 30 minutes on scuba diving equipment, breathing techniques, underwater skills and safety measures.

3. It’s time to try your wetsuit on and the rest of the scuba diving gear to ensure you have the right size that fits you.

4. We are now driving to the dive site. It can take up to 25 minutes depending on the chosen spot. We always decide the dive site on the day as we ensure to choose a place where weather conditions are suitable for a beginner dive. Usually, our top 3 sites are Risco Verde, Playa de Tufia and Playa de Amadores. They provide an easy entry and exit point to ensure you get the best from your experience.

5.Finally, let’s get ready and jump in the clear waters of Gran Canaria for your Try Dive, where you’ll enjoy this incredible experience. After some minutes gain some confidence with your new breathing unit and feeling relaxed we will start our descent into the blue!

What can first-time divers see in Gran Canaria?

Gran Canaria is a diver’s paradise, offering a diverse range of marine life and underwater landscapes.

First-time divers can expect to see colourful fish, fascinating rock formations, and maybe even a friendly octopus or two. There could be chances to encounter cuttlefishes, crabs, and stingrays.

The clear waters and abundant marine life make it an ideal location for your first dive. Nontheless, we must make clear that we are not able to promise seeing any specific species.

What is the difference between Try Scuba and Basic Diver Programs?

Try Scuba program

Dives: 1
Duration: 4 hours
Minumum Age: 8 Years

You get a digital diploma and a very good understanding of what is like to dive.

Basic Diver program

Dives: 2
Duration: 6 hours
Minumum Age: 10 Years

You get a digital recognition card that:

 – allowes you to dive with a Scuba Instructor in conditions similar to your training;
 – can count toward the Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver training.

*Credit only applies if done within six (6) months of completing the Basic Diver program.

What are the requirementsto try Scuba Diving?

  • – Minimum age of 8 years.
  • – Ability to swim.
  • – Completion of a medical questionnaire.

Do I need a medical certificate to try Scuba Diving?

No, you just need to fill out a medical questionnaire with some health-related questions.

You can download the required medical questionnaire here.

Should you answer to any of the 10 questions with a YES, you will have to answer some additional questions on the second form.

  • – If all the answers are NO, you are fit to dive.
  • – If any answer is a YES, you will have to present a dive medical signed by a professional doctor.

On page 3 of this questionnaire, you will find the Diver Medical | Physician‘s Evaluation Form. You can print this one out, and present it with the rest of your declaration for your Doctor’s evaluation.

Do I have to be able to swim to try Scuba Diving?

Being a pro swimmer isn’t a prerequisite for learning how to dive.

When diving, we use equipment like fins and a buoyancy vest, which means you don’t need advanced swimming skills.

Ultimately, feeling comfortable in the water and being in good health are key to enjoying this experience.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend doing so as soon as possible because our spots are limited and we need time to plan accordingly.

To secure your place, you can make a €20 deposit. If you need to change the course date or cancel it, you can do so without any additional charges.

It’s important to understand that €20 fee to reserve your spot is non-refundable in case of cancellation within the previous 24 hours, as it will help us cover the costs for the instructor we had dedicated to you.

How long doesit take, and what is the schedule?

The Try Scuba session takes roughly 4 hours.

Our slots start either at 8:30 am or at 2.30 pm.

During summer period sessions mainly starts around 2.30 pm.
During winter we have the opportunity to reserve some spots also during the morning at 8.30 am.

The Basic Diver program takes roughly 6 hours and the available slots are at 8:00 am.

How long should I wait before flying after diving?

To ensure your safety, SSI recommends waiting at least 12 hours after one Try Scuba dive before flying. Therefore, we suggest taking the course at the beginning of your holiday so you can fully enjoy the opportunity to do multiple dives.
