Lea/Leah did a wonderful job as an instructor to make you feel safe and was fast at assisting with my equipment if i was in need of help. I would 100pct use Brothers Diving again if i return to Gran Canaria in the future. As a very extra plus they transfer you from your hotel and home again. A taxi would cost 16 euros from my hotel one way trip so thats a HUGE discount in the total price. Another side note, they book a privat boat Monday, Wednesday, Friday with a local Captain at the cost of 40 euros pr person. Kind regards Søren/Soren

FAQs About the SSI Divemaster Course in Gran Canaria
What job opportunities do I have as an SSI Divemaster?
Earning your SSI Divemaster certification opens up exciting opportunities, including:
– Working at dive centers across the globe.
– Leading guided dives and mentoring new divers.
– Assisting instructors with recreational dive training.
– Qualify as a Training Specialist for the SSI Ecology Specialty programs.
– Continuing your education to become an SSI Open Water Instructor.
How long does the SSI Divemaster Course in Gran Canaria take?
Want to fast-track your Divemaster training? You could complete the course in as little as 2 weeks (depending on certification level and logged dives).
However, if you’re serious about mastering your skills and preparing for a real diving career, we recommend spending 4 to 6 weeks.
This gives you more time to practice, build confidence, and experience the true day-to-day of a working dive center.
In short: You can rush it, but the best divers take their time.
Do I need a medical certificate to take the course?
Not always. You’ll simply complete a medical questionnaire, and as long as all your answers are negative, you’re ready to begin! However, if you answer “yes” to some questions, a medical certificate might be required.
You can download the required medical questionnaire here.
Should you answer to any of the 10 questions with a YES, you will have to answer some additional questions on the second form.
- – If all the answers are NO, you are fit to dive.
- – If any answer is a YES, you will have to present a dive medical signed by a professional doctor.
On page 3 of this questionnaire, you will find the Diver Medical | Physician‘s Evaluation Form. You can print this one out, and present it with the rest of your declaration for your Doctor’s evaluation.
Please read the questionnaire and follow the steps.
Can I start the theory before arriving to the dive center?
Yes!
Once you secure your booking, you’ll gain immediate access to the MySSI App, allowing you to complete the theoretical part at your own pace before traveling.
That means more time in the water and less time in front of a screen when you get here.
What's the difference between the Dive Guide and the Divemaster certifications?
Alright, imagine you’re at a big family BBQ.
The Dive Guide is like the cool cousin who knows the best spots to grill, tells great stories, and makes sure everyone’s having a good time without burning their sausages. In diving terms, a Dive Guide can lead certified divers on non-commercial underwater adventures, showing them the best marine life and making sure everyone stays safe and happy.
Now, the Divemaster is like the BBQ master who not only knows how to grill perfectly but also teaches others how to do it. A Divemaster has more training, assists instructors during courses, and can help new divers gain confidence.
It’s the first real step into the world of professional diving careers.
So, in short:
Dive Guide = awesome specialized tour leader,
Divemaster = diving pro in the making!
Both are great, but if you want to take your skills, career, and ocean adventures to the next level, becoming a Divemaster is the way to go!

What are the certification requirements to become an SSI Divemaster?
Let’s keep it simple. Depending on the stage of your training, these are the requirements for certification:
Science of Diving SSI – Theoretical Knowledge
– Complete the e-learning.
– Pass the final exam.
Dive Guide SSI – Where the Action Begins
– Minimum of 50 logged dives.
– Complete the e-learning.
– Complete the practical training.
– Pass the final exam.
SSI Divemaster Program – Your Final Step to Certification
To automatically upgrade from Dive Guide to the SSI Divemaster certification, you must meet the following requirements:
– Minimum of 60 logged dives.
– Have completed Science of Diving Specialty exam.
– Maintain valid dive insurance (we can assist you in obtaining one if needed)
– Meet the requirements for an Active Status.
– Personal dive equipment: You’ll need your own gear by the time of the certification. If you haven’t bought it yet, we will offer you advantageous deals.
What does “Active Status” mean, and why is there a fee?
Earning your PRO SSI Divemaster certification is just the first step. To legally work as a Divemaster, after the course certification, you need to activate your status with SSI by paying an annual registration fee.
Other than paying the annual fee, to maintain the Active Status and be fully authorized to work in any dive center worldwide, you must:
– be affiliated to an SSI Training Center;
– have a valid professional liability insurance.
No stress… we’ll help you through the whole process so you can focus on diving!
Can I complete these certifications individually?
Yes, absolutely! You don’t have to complete everything at once (unless you want to become a Divemaster as soon as possible).
– Science of Diving SSI and Dive Guide SSI can be done separately (but keep in mind an extra fee if not done within the Divemaster).
– Theory is self-paced via the My SSI App.
– For Dive Guide SSI, you’ll need to come to the dive center for practical in-water training.
If your goal is to become a Divemaster SSI, you can complete all certifications together or just finish what you’re missing.
It’s your journey; we’ll be with you every step of the way.
Do I need teaching experience to become a divemaster?
No worries, you don’t need any prior teaching experience!
During the course, you’ll learn how to guide dives, conduct briefings, and assist instructors step by step. All you need is a love for diving and the enthusiasm to help others enjoy it too.
