What Can I Do with the SSI Scuba Diver Certification?
Your SSI Scuba Diver certification allows you to dive to a depth of 12 meters, always under the supervision of an instructor or a certified dive professional.
By finishing this course, you’ll have already completed half of the Open Water Diver SSI. It’s the ideal starting point for advancing your training and gaining more independence as a certified diver.
Should I Book the Course in Advance?
Yes, we suggest booking as soon as possible, as availability is limited and we need time to arrange your training.
To reserve your spot, a 30% deposit is required, which grants you access to the SSI e-learning.
If you need to change the date or cancel, you can do so without any additional charges.
Important: While the SSI e-learning fee of 100€ is non-refundable, it never expires. This means you can use it later, either with us or at any SSI center worldwide.
To complete your booking:
– Create your SSI Account HERE;
– Within your SSI profile, add Brothers Diving as your TRAINING CENTER;
– Contact us and provide us with your Diver ID.
After we receive the deposit, we will imediately issue the e-learning and you’ll be able to start with the diving theory.
Do I Need Swimming Skills for This Course?
You don’t need to be a strong swimmer, but you should feel comfortable in the water.
Throughout the course, you’ll use equipment like fins and a buoyancy vest, which makes everything easier.
To complete the course, you’ll need to pass a basic water skills assessment that includes:
– Floating for 10 minutes.
– Swimming or snorkeling for 300 meters.
If you’re unsure about your swimming ability, reach out to us, and we’ll help you assess your level.
How Long Should I Wait to Fly After Diving?
To ensure your safety, SSI advises waiting at least 24 hours after your final dive before boarding a flight.
For the best experience in Gran Canaria, we recommend scheduling the course early in your holiday.
This allows you to enjoy more dives without having to worry about flight restrictions.
Can I Start the Theory Before Arriving in Gran Canaria?
Absolutely! After booking, you’ll receive access to the MySSI App, allowing you to start the theory before you even arrive.
This means you’ll have more time to enjoy diving once you’re here.
Additionally, it’s not mandatory to come to the centre for the quizzes and exam, as they are also available in your SSI study kit.
Do I need a medical certificate for the course?
No, you just need to fill out a medical questionnaire with some health-related questions.
You can download the required medical questionnaire here.
Should you answer to any of the 10 questions with a YES, you will have to answer some additional questions on the second form.
- – If all the answers are NO, you are fit to dive.
- – If any answer is a YES, you will have to present a dive medical signed by a professional doctor.
On page 3 of this questionnaire, you will find the Diver Medical | Physician‘s Evaluation Form. You can print this one out, and present it with the rest of your declaration for your Doctor’s evaluation.
